Enough of this snow in May! Enough of this $300, 000 for an entry level home, $500 monthly for power and gas, $1200 monthly for groceries, and $2700 a year property taxes.

I am scouting out potential retirement spots. Plan to start "on location exploration" by Sept./Oct.

Our "paradise" (!) will offer safe, low cost living, warm (55-90) weather year around, nearby ocean, (lake will do in a pinch) local markets, adequate medical facilities and infrastructure, access to city amenities within a 90 minute drive, opportunity to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle but also to be able to contribute to our new community. A chance to earn a few dollars to supplement pension would be a bonus. My husband is a handy man and has worked as a rancher, mechanic, truck driver, carpenter, commercial salmon, herring and halibut fisherman, and a foreman moving oil rigs. I have worked as a nurse, piano teacher, marriage and family therapist, college instructor and provider of services for children with diabilities. I don't expect any of those jobs will translate readily into anything too lucrative in a foreign country. And I understand the expat's bed and breakfast idea is a bit over done in most places already.

A few English speaking expats would be nice as well, along with whomever the local population consists of. (Beginning to learn Spanish but a considerable way to go.)

Finally, a place close enough for kids/grandkids to visit, but far enough that we get a chance to rejuvinate in between those visits!

I have lived in Mexico for six months, on a tight budget ($1500 monthly for 4 people) in old Vallarta in a primarily Spanish speaking area, and adjusted and enjoyed. So my experience living outside of Canada and the States is minimal. Looking to change that!

Any thoughts/experiences/suggestions?

Thanks in Advance!

What is acceptable as proof of $1000 monthly income? Is that per person?

I have not read about the $10, 000 in your... not read about the $10, 000 in your account for 3 months. Is that recent, or have I just missed it before?

    Thanks...
